#1 TeamGB: Great Britain has won the BRONZE medal today in men’s gymnastics, while China took GOLD and Japan took SILVER. Despite the joy, the GB team and fans still wish they could’ve carried home some heavier hardware.
#2 Chris Marker: Famed French filmmaker, somewhat unknown despite the fact that he has created true artistic masterpieces with his work. La Jetée was probably his most famous work, and is filmed almost entirely using still photos to depict the 28-minute story of a prisoner who is able to undergo a procedure to experience time travel, in which he discovers a unit able to regenerate his own society, and realizes the truth behind his memories and existence. Marker passed away today at the age of 91 and will be well missed in the industry.
#3 Bob Dylan: Jonah Lehrer, a writer for The New Yorker, resigned today after revealing that he had used quotes in his work that he had made up by Bob Dylan. The writer has had other moments of reusing his previous work in his blogs, stories, and his book, Imagine. We take it he’s not winning a Pulitzer anytime soon.
#4 Arrow: Promotions for the series Arrow began today, with the premiere date set for October 10th at 8 p.m. on the CW, and everyone in the Twittersphere is raving about it. The series tells the story of billionaire Oliver Queen’s quest to reconnect with a society he has been distanced from for five years via island shipwreck. He creates the persona “Arrow” to “to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory…”
#5 Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog: For cult theatre lovers everywhere, this is something you won’t want to miss! Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (for those of you who don’t know, it’s a YouTube series about a mad scientist and his attempts to save the world…) will air (also on the CW) on October 9th.
