Today the pop art prodigy turns 84! Warhol known best for his Campbell’s chicken noodle soup and Marilyn Monroe masterpiece, but did you know he also had a huge impact on the fashion industry as well?
In his early years Warhol spent quite a bit of time on fashion sketches.
His passion for illustration actually stemmed from fashion! Warhol worked at a department store during his college years, where he made window displays.
In the 1950s Warhol found illustration work for all of the major fashion magazines including Vogue, Glamour, and Harper’s Bazaar
It wasn’t until the 1960s that Warhol became recognized as a fine artist. Today his acclaimed prints are featured in different garments like the dress pictured above.
Interview Magazine was launched in 1969 by Warhol, and besides boasting intimate interviews with musicians, artists, and socialites– it is still known today for its fashion editorials.
