What (NOT) To Do When Rushing

Don’t go in for a hug or a handshake

As awkward as this sounds, don’t touch them. Different sororities have different rules about making contact with girls and it saves you a potentially uncomfortable moment if they can’t.

-Don’t be nervous

If you go into it with a positive attitude, you will have so much more fun. Truthfully, the girls are just as nervous as you are. It’s a       mutual selection process, so it’s just as important for them to make a good impression on you as it is for you to make a good          impression with them.

-Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not

You want to find a sorority that’s a good match for you. If you can’t see a house accepting you for who you are, then it isn’t the right      place for you. Remember that Marilyn Monroe quote: “if they can’t handle you at your worst, they don’t deserve you at your best.”

-Don’t talk about the three “B”s: boys, booze, or beliefs

The girls are here to learn more about you, so don’t spend your time talking about your boyfriend. While you shouldn’t deny that        you go out and have fun, it doesn’t make a good impression if you tell her how wasted you got last night. Also, don’t talk about         anything controversial because you might offend someone.

-Don’t swear/complain

Remember that you want to make a positive impression.

-Don’t forget a coat/warm sweatshirt

Chances are, you will spend a bunch of time waiting around outside of the houses.  It gets freezing, especially at night, and you      will be thanking us that you brought it.

But most of all, DON’T FORGET TO HAVE FUN! Recruitment is such a transformative time in your life, and it is something you remember whether you end up joining a sorority or not.
